Highest Image Quality in the World

The absolute highest image quality in the world is achieved through a printing process called Chromogenic Printing which uses state of the art RGB lasers to expose photo-sensitive papers made of silver halide. Then developing it using the RA-4 processs using traditional photochemicals the same way traditional photographs were developed in darkrooms. Although this is a much more difficult, complicated, and costly process than inkjet printing, it produces fundamentally sharper and true to color images.

Inkjet Limitations

Inkjets spray tiny dots of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK) inks to trick your eyes into seeing different colors. Most professional inkjets have 8 colors, but this is still very limiting, and some colors just cannot be rendered by mixing the those colors. That's why when you print something using inkjet, the colors are different on paper than on your screen. But that's not the only problem. Since it is producing images by spraying dots, when you look really close, you can see the inkjet grains. This is ok if you're printing something to be looked at from far away, but when you are printing a photo mosaic which is meant to be enjoyed viewing up close, sometimes even with a magnifying glass, it makes a noticeable difference in perception of sharpness, and the grains don't distract from your viewing.

Silver Halide Advantages

Silver halide printing on the other hand exposes light-sensitive papers using red, green, and blue lasers to put the exact colors at the exact spot. This paper is then developed like traditional photographs in darkrooms using photochemicals. This gives you all the same colors you can see on your screen. It's like having millions of ink colors. So it gives you the sharpest, and most satisfyingly full color image without any dotty grains of inkjet prints.

Some professional photographers will never offer inkjet prints and only offer silver halide prints to their clients because they know how much it means to them, and how much better silver halide prints looks, feels, and lasts. This is the same reason we offer you your mosaics on silver halide.
