This mosaic is what I personally interpret to be a visual representation of MLK's statement. The effect of his assassination was widespread public demand for an end to the silencing of African American voices on the issue of discrimination and oppression.
Above is a collection of 109 photos from different protests occurring during what is known as the Holy Week Uprising. In 1968, starting April 4th, citizens took to the streets of different major cities around the country (from Washington, to Chicago, to Baltimore, Detroit, and so on) in an uproar over the assassination of Martin Luther King Junior, the leader of the civil rights movement. The outcry over his death led to social unrest, bringing groups of people together for a common cause. That being, the fight against racial injustice, and proving that a single person's influence can cause overwhelming results when support is shown. In this case, while the results of Holy Week likely would not have pleased MLK because of his resilient message of sticking to nonviolent protests, I believe that Dr. King would be understanding of how events had led up to Holy Week. He would want his statement to take on the interpretation that discrimination and oppression will not go unnoticed, and that even one act of wrongdoing will be put to justice.
